Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large yellow onion halved and sliced
  • 1 package King's Hawaiian Rolls (12-count)
  • 2 cups shredded or thinly sliced roast beef with juices for dipping
  • 8 slices provolone cheese divided

Garlic Butter Topping

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 ½ teaspoons garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped parsley
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add onions and cook for about 25-30 minutes until tender and caramelized.
  • Keeping the Hawaiian rolls attached, use a serrated knife to cut through the middle, dividing top and bottom halves.
  • Place the bottom halves in the prepared baking dish, then layer with provolone cheese, roast beef, caramelized onions, and remaining cheese.
  • Top with the top halves of the rolls.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, garlic, parsley, and salt. Brush over the tops of the rolls.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes or until cheese is hot and bubbly. Remove foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes to toast tops.
  • Remove from oven, slice, and serve with au jus for dipping.
